Cheshire Show

I was at the Cheshire Country Show today with work. It was a long day, but it was enjoyable. It's good to see that, despite Labours best efforts, the countryside is still fighting on and keeping to some of the old traditions that make it what it is. The Young Farmer's Club certainly got into the spirit with their themed floats. I also enjoyed watching the cow judging and was particularly impressed with the winning one. A great big bull.

There was also plenty of local foods on sale and I came away with 1/4 pound of traditional old fashioned Cheshire Cheese. Providing an outlet for local and farm produce is really important. It adds variety to the stacked shelves of supermarkets. I've always been proud to support Fylde's Farmers Market and under the Conservatives stewardship that is long to continue.

Several farmers did complain to me about the Government Rural Payment Agency and their inability to pay farmers on time. It is also interesting to note that in 5 years a load of bread has risen from 58p to £1.15 on average. It appears to me that the Government is fiddling somewhere. Produce has never been more expensive and the agreed subsidy payments are not getting to the farms. Yet more and more farmers are unable to make ends meet and giving up on their families traditions. So who's making all the money?? It appears not to be farmers.......

New Pavements

There have been some complaints about the new pavements. I was sorry to hear of these and have promised those who have complained to look into them and get them sorted. I think the County Council needs to ensure a better job is done. I'll report back once I've resolved all the outstanding issues.

Alley Cleaned Up

I said I would take action over the alley between Catherine Street and Market Street and I have. The council have litter picked and trimmed it. It's not perfect now, but it is a 100 times better than before. I'll be working to get something long term and more pleasing put in.

Paving success

The promised pavement works have finally started. Long months of e-mailing and writing has paid off and Wesham's patch work pavements are no more. I think this is a tremendous boost to the condition and visual aspects of Wesham. It may have been a long time coming, but I'm glad it has.

Forgive the bad pun with this story! While checking out the danger branch, these two traffic signs were laying about. I've reported them for collection, picked up two cans and a bottle, reported the over flowing litter and noticed that still the contractors had not started the skateboard park! And that was just driving home from work.

This is a Skateboard Park that is being built in Lytham by the same contractors as the one due (sometime soon) to be built in Wesham. They are renowned for their quality and innovative building of skate ramps and the like.

I'm pushing for a start date on this and I hope it will be in the next few days, we've been promised it for some time now and it's about time it got sorted. I'm in constant talks with the borough engineer. I'll keep people informed of the progress.

Crewe Election Success

It's been a while since I've posted on this site, mainly due to the heavy work load with what's going on at the Town Hall and also due to the sad death of Gweneth Dunnwoody, the popular MP for Crewe and Nantwich. Being a loyal party Worker I've been putting a few spare days into that campaign, along with 1000's of my colleagues around the country. It was good to see that all our hard work paid off and what a result. A 17% swing that if repeated at a general election would see Labour with only 101 MP's.

Some may question why a councillor from Rural Fylde should be so excited by this result and surely he should be working in Wesham instead of running around other people's streets delivering newsletters. And that would be a good question to ask. However, the answer is, firstly Wesham was not neglected, I've still be doing casework, I've still attended the meetings I needed to go to and I've still been working for Wesham and Fylde's interests.

And secondly, only by speaking to other people around the country can I gauge the level of betrayal of the British people by Gordon Brown. The 10p tax fiasco for one. A tax rate introduced to help people on low incomes, taken away which has left 5.3 million people worse off.

By getting a Conservative Government elected many of the problems we face locally can be challenged and changed. A Conservative Government for instance would have allowed us to have a local agenda when setting council tax levels, meaning local priorities can be funded. This could have taken all uncertainty away over Kirkham Baths.

Although I am a local politician, nation politics affects local decision more so than some care to admit. I am a committed Conservatives, and I am also committed to the local people, the two are compatible and the two will help delivery better public services and facilities.

War Memorial Flower Pots

I've just been informed that the War Memorial is planted with summer flowers as part of the contract, just not winter bedding flowers. I still feel this is poor, the War Memorial is at the centre of the village and defines to village. I'll make enquiries to see if I can contribute to have some winter bedding put in next year.

However, as a result of my whinge to FBC, they are at least going to weed the pots, which I suppose is something!

U turn if you want - the Lady's not for turning

That was the famous quote that Margaret Thatcher said during a Conservative Party Conference, it appears that the current Prime Minister could do with learning the same.

He's now u turned on bin tax. This was a scheme he backed (until the voters gave him the biggest defeat for 60 years on Thursday) where by you paid to bin your rubbish. This stealth tax was opposed by Conservatives nationally and locally and a scheme I had written about my opposition to previously.

However, it seems the man of prudent principal or as we've come to see him, the chickenly coward has made another u turn. In fact he seems to u turning more than a one armed swimmer.

I know some people may think that it's a sign of listening to the people, but surely he's the foresight to know that shutting post offices, making the working poor pay more tax and taxing people on the weight of the rubbish they throw were going to be bad with the British people.

Either, he's too stupid to see this, or so complacent of his party's election ability that he frankly does not care.

Well he'll care now with the prospect of being one of the shortest serving Prime Minister ever beckoning.

As Thursday night showed, only the Conservatives can stop Labour, and that's the same at the Town Hall and the County Hall as much as it is at Westminster or London City Hall.

Another oversight?

It appears that the planting around the war memorial is not included in the contract awarded to FBC by the Town Council. I do have to double check this, but if this is the case, it another massive oversight from our open spaces contract 'expert' and also if this is the case it means the war memorial will not be planted, which I find as a totally unacceptable disgrace.

I pledge that I'll donate £50 from my own money to provide plants to have the war memorial sorted out.

More on Green Action Day

The video below shows some of the pictures taken on Wesham's first green action day, we collected over 25 bags of rubbish, which included a small kitchen knife, some drain pipes, several vodka bottles and an old shoe.

I'd like to thank the councillors and community volunteers who came out to help, in the rainy hour we were there we did shift a load of rubbish and made a very good start. We concentrated on the Door Step Green, the Car Park at the side of Town Hill Walk and in Mowbreck Court. We could have easily spent another hour, but we were all getting wet and tired. IT was interesting to note, that despite the invite and advance notice, only Conservative Councillors and community volunteers came out.

I do aim to run this type of event every few weeks and in different parts of Wesham, Rural Fylde and the Borough. This is the Conservative Party being the party that puts it money where its mouth is and does something useful and practical for the community. It is all very well talking in a committee meeting, but sometimes only action will do.

I have to start this post by saying sorry. Sorry for not updating it for so long! I've no excuses, well maybe one or two. Firstly I've been really engaged in the Local Elections over the last two weeks or so. Helping to get more Conservatives elected to councils around the Northwest And what a result we had. Boris as Mayor, Control of 12 more councils and Labour losses of over 400 councillors. This is a great time to be a Conservative and a bad time to be Labour!

The other reason I've not been to active on updating is the Pools. These are my one concern and priority currently and I have been an spending increasing number of hours discussing, explaining and planning for the future of Fylde's swimming provision. Things on that front are moving very well in deed and hopefully we'll be in position to make announcements soon.

What does a councillor do

I'm often asked what does a councillor do, well today, I've written 14 e-mails asking for action in Wesham and read ten more. This might not seem too great, but it is only 08:10, I've been up since 06:30 and I've now got an 8 hour day in my 'normal' full time job.

I'm not complaining, it's just time management and the hidden side of being a councillor.

Work required

These pictures taken this weekend show the condition of some of Wesham's open spaces. Although, to be fair, the season's only just started, they do look like they need some attention. However, it appears that one Town Councillor, who will be nameless, is embarrassed about me pointing this out. Rather than using his good offices to sort this out, he's sneakily having a go at me for actually pointing out the areas.

I won't be side tracked by more opposition dirty tricks, I've contacted the people who can sort this out and have got them to agree that works needs carrying out.

I've spoken to the litter department and they are investigating with a view of litter picking and I've contacted New Fylde Housing who will attend to the shrubs areas that they are responsible for. That's up front honest action rather than back biting and negative politics.

I'd be interested to know what local residents want, action or nasty words?

Grounds Maintenance

I've just been out with a team of people delivering leaflets around Wesham Hall Road and I am shocked at the condition of the grounds maintenance there. I think something urgently needs doing and I will be calling in to see the Parks Manager next week to discuss. The beds are over grown and there is litter everywhere. I've taken some pictures which I will be e-mailing out to the Parks Manager before I visit. I really do feel that the Open Spaces Contract has been mis managed here and questions needs asking.

It has already cost Wesham residents more money that it should due to sloppy tendering and specifications requirements and required me to argue a reduction based on land that the Borough owns being taken out of the figures. But I was expecting a better level of management of the contract. Maybe it's a case of out of site out of mind. Rest assured I'll be taken firm action.

Sad to say but the ugly side of Party-politics has reared its head in Fylde. The attempts by the opposition to ‘smear’ me have led to suggestions that I am so kind of porn baron with hard core images on my Facebook profile. I’m not and there aren’t. Facebook is an ‘open’ programme that allows people (anyone) to post articles, comments and, yes, images, on your own personal profile. Somebody thought it would be amusing to post images of an inappropriate nature on my page. As soon as I was made aware of this, I removed them. However, I shall stick with Facebook as many people use that as their preferred way to contact me. I shall, once again, stress that I will not be throwing mud back at my opponents. I am happy to fight elections on my record, it seems they are not too confident about their own.

Operation Clean Sweep

They say the best form of flattery is imitation, well it certainly is in Wesham. No sooner do I mention something on this site or in my newsletter then we have others saying 'we've been talking about it for ages and were going to do it all along any way'.

We I just don't believe it. Operation Clean Sweep was talked about on this site on 14th March, yet this very day, nearly two weeks later, an opponent suddenly remembers that he's been doing it already and posts something of a similar nature.

I'm all for working together for the benefit of the Town, but what I am not for is others jumping on already moving ideas and then passing them off as their own. It's not good and it's cheap opportunistic politics. You know when the independents are in town at Wesham, you can see all the Bandwagon parked in the car park!

We'll just see this evening at the Town Council what comes up, you can rest assured the plans will not be anywhere as advanced as claimed!

War Memorial

Is it time to clean and restore Wesham's tribute to the Fallen? I have brought this up at Town Council before but was out voted! I think it is time we invested in the Memorial before it's too late. Offer of help turned down

Apparently my offer to paint and refurbish the Market Street Pagoda is not wanted. The Chairman of the Civic Pride Trust rather sharply told me 'it's in hand' is this like the 'it's in hand' of last year and the year before, or is it a 'it's in hand' now someone is showing interest in it? I feel that the only reason it is now being looked at is I've asked about it, and if I had not, it'd have spent another year deteriorating.

Resurfacing work.

You may have seen that at long last the county has got round to doing all the resurfacing work I've been asking for for the last year or so. It's looking much better now and is a precursor to some more work later in the year. As you can see from these two picture the work is looking good and is making Wesham's streets tidier and safer.

Rubbish reported down Porter Street

Kirkham Baths

My campaign to save Kirkham Baths has been successful and the Pool will now remain open. I managed to convince my fellow Conservative Councillors that the pool was an important community facility for the whole of Fylde and that Kirkham pool now become the pool where are Fylde children learn to swim.

I am proud that the Conservative stuck together, in the face of tough opposition who were hell bent on setting an illegal budget. We faced of these challenges and have secured not only a stable financial future for Fylde, but also a stable future for public swimming in the Fylde.

Swimming Pool Meeting.

Last night I attended a meeting of all the town and parish councils in the Fylde. Wesham had a good attendance, with 5 of our 9 being present. It was of course telling that the people who called me for not attending a previous meeting, a meeting where nothing could be achieved, did not attend last night, a meeting where something was achieved. It was also telling that only 3 of Kirkham's 10 Town councillors turned up.

The aim of the meeting was to see if the parishes would help keep Kirkham baths open by by-passing the Governments capping limit and them charging the additional 25p a week that local residents seem to be willing to pay.

I'm not too sure if this is the right way. I have an idea that will keep the baths open and will give more stakeholders a say in the running of them. The first problem is getting the council to agree to keep them open on Monday evening. If I can do that and I sense there is a will to do so, then I'll present this plan.

So yet again, it's action from Simon while others are just mouthing of in the papers and at meetings where nothing can change.

Wesham's New SPID

It brilliant to see that Wesham's new SPID is up and running fully. It'll be a brilliant investment and will make Wesham Roads safer. I think the Town Council made a good decision to purchase it and I think they councillors that have been on the training course are very dedicated.

It would have been good to have bought it sooner, but I suppose there were reasons why some councillors were unwilling to do so. However, I am really chuffed and pleased that I've been involved and voted for buying this device.

Skatepark Plans

I have seen the plans for the WEsham Skatepark. We currently have two plans with a third set on the way. Currently the designs are either concrete or steel and both have their advantages and their disadvantages.

We're running the designs passed a group of skateboards who will give us their expert approval before the The final decision is made.

The Skatepark is great news for Wesham and the Fylde and will prove to be an interesting addition to the park.

Mini Roundabout Repair

Council Meeting

I attended last nights full council meeting of Fylde Borough Council. The agenda was not too controversial, but the meeting still went on for two hours. Topics discussed included the Multi Area Agreements, that the Independent Party tried in vain to scupper, which would see this council working with Blackpool and Wyre councils for better working practices and better outcomes. Again the Independents showed why they led the council into the ground, talk about 'Fortress Fylde'.

Other areas discussed were the schedule of meetings and delegated powers to the Finance Officer. The meeting ended at about 9 pm.

A letter to the Gazette in defence of Margaret Thatcher

Dear Sir,

I must take extreme exception to Bryan Partington's letter in the Gazette dated 25/1/2008. I cannot believe the level of dogma that man must suffer from to call one of the greatest world leaders of a generation evil. Lady Thatcher was a Prime Minister that made this country feel proud again.

I'm too young to remember this country in the late 60's and throughout the 70's when picket lines were common and work forces walked out at a drop of a hat. I did not live through the height of the cold war, where the real threat of nuclear annihilation was present. I did not suffer when Great Britons world position plummeted due to socialist policy. I have vague recollections that the once mighty United Kingdom was seen as so weak a Military Junta thought they could take advantage of us and invade British Sovereign Soil. I only hear stories of the Winter of Discontent.

However, I can remember the Lady that reversed all that, the Lady who did not turn and the Lady who had more courage than many before her and certainly all who followed in the job after her. When the Union Flag flew once again over Port Stanley, I was at 8 years old, very happy, very proud and very grateful for the sacrifice. When the Berlin Wall fell, I knew this country played it's whole hearted part in ending Soviet ambition, as a result Mrs. Thatcher’s courage. Davis, said:

in the next two years. And, as a matter of integrity, it would be improper
to essentially say ‘Vote Tory and we will pay you £200’ - that sort of

“Frankly this is no longer about money. It is about honour, trust and
confidence that the Government has betrayed. So I thought about how we
restore confidence in the relationship.

“We cannot legally take away the power from Government to overrule a pay
settlement, but I have agreed with David Cameron and George Osborne that if
a future Conservative Government wants to overrule a statutory arbitration,
they must come to the House of Commons and get approval. They must put it to
a vote of MPs.

“In that way we can return honour and integrity to the system and ensure
that, in future, the police and other disciplined services are never again

Wesham Post Office Success

Wesham Post Office survives the Closure Program.

In today announcement by the Post Office, Wesham has survived the chop, along with most post offices in Fylde. The Government has, though said 4 will close, including Singleton, Elswick, Catforth and Warton Street in Lytham.

This is of course good news for Wesham, but not so good for some people, especially those serviced by the offices due to close. I think the most serve cut will be the one in Singleton. Singleton is a unique village and I feel this will just have such a negative effect on village life.

The Conservatives locally have campaigned to keep the post offices open. We got a petition with over a 1000 names and we passed a notice of motion at Council to oppose the closures. It would be nice to think it all had an effect, but I believe that the Government cynically stuck to their formula and ignored all public concern.

So it's well done to Wesham, but sad news for Singleton. The Conservatives will now take check and think about opposing all these cuts.

Allotments

We have received today a letter offering the old allotments on Morland Avenue to the Town Council to lease. We are minded to do so, but I've asked the Borough to have the site cleared so they can go into immediate use.

When the Borough took these off the Town they were in usable condition and it is only fair that they are returned in a fair condition.

I'm hoping that they will soon be up for rent and will of course let you know when they are.

New Notice Board

The Town Council has decided to purchase a new notice board for the Town. I must say it's about time the old one is past it best. The new one will be made of wood and will be able to hold 8 A4 sheets.

The board will be paid for by the Mayor, the Civic Trust and the Town Council.

New Dog Bin?

I stipulated that it will have to be placed sensitively so it does not obscure any ones view. I have also written to the manager at Fylde Council to ensure we get one, as Bowland Grange seems to be the only place in Wesham without one.

Cigarette success?

Following some complaints about cigarette buts being disposed off outside the three pubs in Wesham, I've now had word back that action will be taken.

The street cleaners will spend extra time cleaning up and monitoring and the supervisor will be have a quiet word with the land lords to ensure that a bin is placed outside.

Cigarette Buts

I've had a number of complaints recently about the number of cigarette butts being thrown on the ground outside the three pubs in Wesham following the public smoking ban. Although I don't want the council to come down heavy handed on pub landlords something needs to be done to look at this problem.

I have asked the councils environmental unit to look into this and I will follow up what they say. I will as always let you know what happens.

It's been a week since I've updated this, so sorry. However, it has been a busy week, but not necessary with Wesham stuff. I had meetings Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all last week. Those being a Conservative Group Meeting, a meeting with the Candidate for the Blackpool North seat, a briefing with my key officers and then Cabinet on Wednesday. Nothing on the cabinet agenda directly effect Wesham so nothing really crucial to report.

Thursday I go out with some friends to a pub quiz and that was good after a hard week. We did not win, in fact we came last, but as the old English proverb goes, it's the taking part that counts.

The Government again has shown why it can't be trusted with ID cards. A laptop computer belonging to the MOD was stolen with 600,000 peoples private data on. On top of that bags of confidential waste was found by a road and all this follows the Child Benefit and the DVLA data loses.

I mean imagine if that was your biometric data that was lost?

Recent Fires

I've been reading in the local press recently about a spate of house fires in the local area. There does seem to be more recently than I remember previously. I have written to the Chief Fire Office to ask for figures to compare from previous years.

I've also asked what information or eduction campaigns are happening in this area as there must be a root cause to all the fires.

Market Street Success

Labour in trouble again!

It appears that the political future of, the once tipped for PM, Peter Hain is on the rocks. He apparently forgot to declare £103,000 in his failed deputy leadership campaign of the Labour Party.

I once forgot about £20 in an old wallet, I'd certainly not forget about £103,000. And then the scandal gets worse. Apparently two donors gave money to a 'think tank' who then gave the money without their consent to his campaign. Is that not theft! It appears the whole Government that was elected with high hopes is rotten to the core.

Lets get an election and get rid of them!

Common Sense Victory

I've heard word from Lancashire County Council today that they are going to make changes to the Station Road roundabout that had been causing so much concern with residents of Wesham.

I'm glad I've been able to sort this out for residents as it was a big issue. I've copied the text of the e-mail from the County so you can see what's being proposed.

"Cllr Renwick,

Following a site meeting this morning some additional signs on the approaches to the roundabout have been put on order, some anti-skid treatment (part of the original scheme but somehow omitted) is to be applied shortly. The roundabout on Station Rd is to be built up however, due programming commitments elsewhere for the surfacing crew this cannot be carried out until mid February.

As in all projects, the scheme would be subject to a post opening safety audit but in light of the additions/revisions this will not be undertaken until the works above are complete.

With regard to additional double yellow lines on Station Rd suggested in the email from Ms XXXXX an amendment to the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for that section of highway would be required which includes advertisements, an opportunity for public response etc. I am not empowered to merely add to or extend these parking prohibition lines. However, Karen Galloway Traffic & Safety Network Management based at Hampson Green should be able to shed further light on this subject. "

Bowland Grange Pond

I've got agreement from the Council that some work will be undertaken on the Bowland Grange Pond. As you can see, it's got into a state over the last few months and just needs some renovation. I've reported that the path is slippy, retaining wall is collapsing, there is wood floating about, the no fishing sign needs replacing and as previously reported the life rings housing had been vandalised.

I'm hoping these issues will be sorted as soon as possible, but at the very latest by the end of the week.

Skate Park Consultation Results

Hello,

Following the consultation event a few Sundays ago, Fylde borough staff have been collating the results. Top among them was a desire to see more challenging equipment for older children, a skate park and a multi use games area.

With the recent Lottery Fund announcement to put a multi use games area at Barnfield in Kirkham, we've decided not to double up just yet on the same equipment in so closer an area.

We also feel that a skate park is more challenge equipment for older children, so the consensus is towards the skate park. The Town Council is still principally in favour and the consultation cast no doubt upon that support. So it looks like we'll have a skate park in Wesham by April.

Council staff will be working on a design next week to show the Town Council and get final approval. The purchase order should be raised in late Jan and work starting in March.

I really do think this is excellent news for Wesham and the whole of rural Fylde, it will give give us a facility that we can be proud of.

Road Gritting Campaign

This is an extract from an e-mail received today about my article in the Gazette over better gritting being needed in Rural Fylde.

"I was pleased to see that you are trying to get the County Council to grit the small roads in the area. The newspaper article neglected to say that I was the 5th motorist to skid and seriously damage my car on the same stretch of road between Weeton and Wesham on the morning of 20 December. I still cannot believe that I was not hurt but feel the County Council should make it a priority to grit that road when necessary before someone is fatally hurt. The man from Fylde Motors, who recovered my car, said that the road is notorious for black ice. If the Council cannot agree to grit the road at least warning signs should be put up. "

This campaign seems to have resonated with the public, it's just a pity our current County Councillor has kept quiet on this subject, like on every other subject I suppose. Any idea's who it is? Answers on a post card.

Life Saving?

I had reports of Vandals destroying the life ring at the Bowland Grange pond over Christmas. As this is vital equipment I rang the Council emergency number (FBC has shut down until 2nd Jan). The person on the other end was very understanding, but was unable to help as there were no instruction for this type of incident.

I don't think this is good enough and the Council should be in a position to restore life saving equipment, even at Christmas. Once the Chief Executive comes back from his Christmas break I'll be speaking to him.

In the meantime, the ring has been recovered from the floating in the pond and is now at rest on the banks. I'll ensure that it is fully restored, along with sorting out the slippery path and the collapsing retaining walls as soon as possible.

Mini Roundabout Mark 2

The new mini roundabout where Derby Road and Station Road meet is causing some concern. I'm asking for it to be monitored as I believe it is invisible as you approach it. County have come back and said it will be 'audited'. I'm not sure what that means entirely, probably that they'll monitor it like I asked. As soon as I get an answer from them, I'll let you know.

Mini Roundabout

As you can see from this picture this mini roundabout at the bottom of Weeton Road is in dire condition. The pot hole if so big and deep it's throwing out bits of the road underneath every time a car goes over it. I've asked the County to look at this as a matter of urgency.

Car Crash

It was brought to my attention that a car skidded into a ditch on Weeton Road, the other side of the by pass, as a result of the roads being left untreated. I've asked County to explain their policy and I'll also be asked for them to consider a more robust approach to make sure Rural Fylde becomes a less dangerous place to drive in winter.

Wesham Skate Park Consultation

The next step is to work up some proposals from the results of the consultation and then get working on building what's wanted.

We've had reports that Wesham's post office is not under threat of closure. This is indeed good news and testament to the campaign run by the Conservative Party and Others to keep it open. We must still though keep a watching brief just in case the info is not quite right.

Bus Shelters - are they dull?

HI,

I've written recently to the Chairman of the Wesham Civic Pride Trust (Wesham in Bloom Committee) to ask if he agrees with a suggestion I made.

Wesham has two brick bus shelters, one on Weeton Road and one on Wesham Cross. Both are painted internally in a rather dull single pastel colour. My suggestion to the Chairman was that we can run a competition from local school children to design and paint the internal part of the bush shelter to brighten them up a bit.

We would have to check out the designs very carefully, but if there is an artistic teenager with the ability to paint a design, then I think it will be a unique and inspirational idea.

Of course, Art is subjective and one man's Warhol is another pile of junk, so we could have the designs changed regularly.

Have you any thoughts?

Speed Indicator Devices

Hello,

I've written this weekend to the Chief Constable of Lancashire Police to ask him what is he doing to get this silly movement ban on SPIDs lifted.

Currently no police officer is allowed to move and install SPIDs until they've carried out a risk assessment and been on a ladder use course. I find this bizzare, the height of the posts in Wesham, on Fleetwood Road and Weeton Road at about 6 foot. We're talking about a step ladder here, not some scaffolding!

I feel that common sense is needed here. SPIDs act as gentle reminder to normally law abiding motorists to check and change their speed to what is appropriate. They have a calming effect and are an important tool in combatting unwhitting speeding that could cause a fatal action.

While they are being 'banned' people may just be driving at those few extra miles an hour past both Schools in Wesham and for that reason this is a priority.

Wesham Town Council is ready to buy one of these SPIDS for use in Wesham, however, due to this 'ban' we've not proceeded. Unless we get an answer from the Chief Constable about the future of SPIDsw we may just miss the financial boat this year due to the budget being agreed.

Litter bins

I noticed that the litter bin outside the Co-op is overflowing. I've reported this to the manager in charge of keeping Wesham's streets cleaner.

Also, I've had some luck in getting new litter bins installed. One outside the Royal Oak and one by the bus stop on Fleetwood Road.

Post Office Climb Down?

The Government (and you can't make this up) has announced that it will not be announcing any post office closures until May 2008. You may ask why may, well there are local authority election in May 2008 in many council across the land (not Fylde though). So Why's this then, does this mean that our local post offices are safe, that they are thinking again, that we were right. You must be kidding. They don't want to lose council seats where the post offices are being closed.

Can you believe that, Brown the Bottler, does not even have the bottle to put his new post office scheme to the electoral test! If it's so right to close post offices, let the people pass a verdict!

Although there is a stay of execution, we still have to vigilant for Fylde Post Offices, don't forget they have closed down 8 in Fylde since 1999. The Conservatives are still fighting and we are still campaigning. All post offices are vital in the Fylde, our network of small villages and rural communities need these to keep the cohesion. Shutting them, will shut down a village.

It appears that after long last he beast of Wesham has been tracked down. This mastif size dog has been roaming around since the spring with occasional sittings.

However, the dog wardens have now spotted the dog and are starting to feed it to gain trust and will then capture it for it to be re-housed.

Child Benefit Cock Up

I was as shocked as anyone at the news that 25 millions people's persoanl data has been lost by the Government's Tax agancy, it certainly gives you hope that they will be able to keep safe all the information they plan to hold on an ID card.

18,315 families in the Fylde have been affect by this cock up, and all though currently the advice is no one has grounds for fear, it is still worrying that this data has been lost. However the most worrying news is that the office junior acting under direction from a more senior member of staff is being balmed for this.

I find scapegoating a very dangerous and unfair practice. The head of the HMCR has resigned, and quite rightly so, but there are political masters that still cling on to their jobs.

And while I am talking about resignations. Contrast the behavour of the Head of HMRC and that of the Metroplitean Police, Sir Ian Blair, who steadfastly refuses to go, despite trying to cover up the killing of an innocent man.

I firmly believe that when things go so badly wrong, even if you are not personnally to blame, heads should roll at the top, and in this case we've a chancellor who steal's others ideas, bales out banks with our cash, and now seems to be losing persoanl information on such a grand scale.

He's predecessor, now the Prime Minister is no better, Dave Cameron hit the nail on the head when he said it frankly Weird to blame the opposition party for a cock up in the department he was in charge of for 10 years. No wonder the title 'The Bottler' fits and sticks.
