I'm backing the Post Offices

Conservatives in Fylde are backing plans to save our remaining Post Offices.

The Post Office has announced that consultation on the next branches to be closed in the Borough will begin in January 2008.

Eight Post Offices in Fylde have already been closed since 1999.

Across the country, 4,000 Post Offices – a quarter of the network – have closed. A further 2,500 are expected to close by 2009.

Councillor Simon Renwick said: “Last year, 2,000 sub-post masters marched on Parliament and gave a four-million name petition to the Prime Minister opposing Post Office closures.

“Now, we are about to be told that yet more are to close and I’m concerned that some will be in Fylde. Many of our communities rely on these Post Offices.”

Conservatives will be holding an Action Day when residents in Fylde will be able to support the campaign to save our Post Offices. Come along to Kirkham's Market Square this Saturday at 11 am until 1 pm.
