The Government is Stealing from us again.

Hello,

The Government has announced a policy where it is going to 'claw back' surplus reserves from Schools. They say 'claw back' I say stealing. At Wesham's Church of England School, this amounts to nearly £10,000. That's £10,000 that has been put aside prudently to pay for any number of things that will improve the education of local children.

I thought this Government where about education, it seems they are crooked little thieves and liars.

Lytham St Annes High will have £50,000 stolen, but most disgraceful of all, Kirkham's Pear Tree will have £28,000 taken away!

Simon.

Morland Avenue and Queens Place

Hello,

I've got a date of the 7th January when a section of Morland Avenue and all Queens Place will have their pavements resurfaced. This has taken some hard lobbying to achieve and I am pleased that the County has agreed with me that it needs doing. It is long over due.

Simon

Can the Government be trusted?

Below is a press release that shows the flip flopping of the Magpie Chancellor, just what can we believe?

Darling's flip-flop adds to confusion over Capital Gains Tax.

Giving evidence to the Treasury Select Committee today, Alistair Darling
performed yet another flip-flop on his changes to Capital Gains Tax by
opening the door to concessions demanded by business. Just a week ago he
vowed to proceed with the reforms as announced.
Shadow Chancellor George Osborne said:
"Every time the Chancellor opens his mouth on Capital Gains Tax he adds to
the confusion. He conceded this morning that he was prepared to look at
changes to the proposals he put forward just two weeks ago. Why didn't he
think about all of this before his ill-judged Pre Budget Report
announcement?
"Small businesses wondering whether to sell up before next April are now
left completely in the dark. The sooner the Chancellor admits he's made a
mess of the whole thing and goes back to the drawing board the better."
Notes to editors
1) Treasury Select Committee, 25 October 2007
Giving evidence to the Treasury Select Committee this morning, Alistair
Darling open the door for a climbdown on changes to the PBR plans that he
vowed to proceed with just one week ago.
Here are the relevant excerpts:
Questioned by Graham Brady MP on CGT:
[talking about businesses who have complained about the change] "Of course
I'm willing to talk to them about how in detail we can improve things"
"I understand that people facing retirement have a particular concern..."
Questioned by Michael Fallon on whether he is ruling out any rethink on
taper relief:
"They've raised a number of specific issues. I said of course I'll work with
them there"
(then continued to refuse to rule it out)
Fallon: "So that's a no?" (Darling doesn't answer)
Questioned by Philip Dunne MP on CGT and Digby Jones:
"He [Lord Jones] hasn't got round to having that private conversation with
me and I'm looking forward to having it"
[Had business leaders been consulted?] "No. Sometimes the Treasury consults
and sometimes it doesn't."
2) Only three days ago the Treasury was briefing that there would be no CGT
concessions:
"An HM Treasury source insisted: "The Chancellor listened to their points
and explained the thinking behind the Government's announcement - and that
the policy was a firm announcement."
(Darling won't budge on tax - The Sun, 23 October 2007)
3) And at Treasury Questions one week ago, 18 October 2007, Darling vowed to
proceed with his changes:
"I think that simplifying the tax system is necessary and a single rate of
capital gains tax is the right thing to do. Although I accept that some
people are not entirely happy about it, others have welcomed the proposal,
and therefore I intend to proceed with the changes that we are making."

EU Treaty Referendum

Hello,

I was copied in on a letter sent to Michael Jack from a local resident. He's been kind enough to let me use the letter on this website as I believe it encapsulates the reasons for wanting a referendum very well.

Dear Mr. Jack,

It will come as no surprise to you, to receive a letter from me on the
subject of the "on/off" referendum on the proposed Constitutional
treaty - or whatever they now call it - since I have written to you on
previous occasions, about the evil European Union and all its works.

However this time its different. Whether one is "phile" or "phobe" on
this subject there can be no doubt that the British people were
promised a referendum, prior to the last election, a pledge supported
by all parties in the House, and no amount of wriggling or legal
legerdemain, surrounding the "red lines" can alter that. In any case
the so-called red lines were included in the deal when Blair made his
promise.

This is now a matter of confidence and trust in the probity of our
legislators, and I trust that you will be actively supporting the move
to set-up a simple referendum, on whether or not the Government should
sign up to this treaty, and more importantly that Her Majesty should be
required to sign away even more of her(and our) sovereignty. I, of
course would be happy for an "In or Out" vote to consign the whole
rotten edifice to the history books, but will settle for the British
people to be given a voice on this particular question.

British politicians are wonderful on the subject of the polls telling
us what we ought to do, when the polls agree with whatever point they
wish to press forward. In this case, there is overwhelming support for
a referendum in every poll conducted. Just for once, do you think it
possible that our brave Members of the "Mother of Parliaments" would
really listen to the voice of the people, and let the people speak. I
for one will be desperately disappointed if that voice gave approval
for signing this treaty, but I would accept that this is what people
say, and move on.

May we please have your full-hearted support?

Yours sincerely,

John Mair

Simon.

Brown the Bottler

The great clucking fist tried a lame joke at PMQ's on Wednesday and pointed out that the number 10 petition calling for an early election only had 58 names. It's now jumped to nearly14,000. If you wish to add your name then go to http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Election-year/ and sign up.

Pot Holes

Hello,

I was told some new yesterday about a gentleman who trip in a pot hole around the Meadow Park area and ended up in a plaster cast with a broken foot. This goes to show how dangerous they potentially are.

I can get pot holes filled in relatively easily by the County but I need to know where they are as I don't see every single one myself. If you see any, please let me know and I can arrange to have them filled in and no one need break their foot again.

E-mail simon@wesham.com or call 682582.

Thanks,

Simon.

Our Troops

Hello,

At the Conference I was surprised to learn that the common perception was that only Aldershot Council had celebrated the return of troops from Iraq. That perception is wrong and I am making it my business to put it right.

Here in Fylde, at my request, put on a welcome home parade. We had 200 men and officers from the 2nd Battalion the Rifles march down Lytham Promenade to Lowther where the Mayor inspected the troops and then we held a civic reception in the pavilion for all.

I am proud of the way our troops conduct themselves and regardless of what you think about the war and it's reasons, they do a fantastic job in difficult circumstance. I was proud that our council met the challenge where so many other have not and spent time and money of the rightful pursuit of honouring those that put themselves in harms way for all our benefit.

I've written to Dr. Liam Fox MP the Conservatives defence secretary to explain about the gratitude that Fylde Borough has for the armed service.

Simon

Brown's Bottled It

It appears the 'Iron Chancellor' has bottled it! Well what a surprise. He tried to liken him self to the Blessed Margaret, but his Iron is not the same as her Iron, her iron was made of English Oak, his iron was fashioned on a chocolate fire guard (talk about mixed metaphors!).

But regardless, he thought he could beat the Conservative 2 weeks ago, it now appears he's reckoning he can't. That's like the English Cricket Team pulling out of a test match against Scotland and blaming the dodge Prawn Porridge!

Gordon, it does not wash, you're a coward. I bet during the last war you'd have been happier in the Tower of London as a TRAITOR than a soldier fighting for this Country's and the world's freedom against the NAZIs. Come on Prime Minister, where exactly is your bottle (other than the drinks cabinet!)?

Sleep well,

Simon.

The trickery of New Labour

Hello,

I've found this great website.

http://bogusjourneys.blogspot.com/

You may have seen in the papers about Cabinet Minister James Purnell not being able to make the opening of a hospital wing, so he just photo shopped himself into it with out being there. Well this web site shows where else this man may have been.

Although just a bit of fun, there is a serious point, if they can lie about where they clearly where, what else do they lie about??????????

Enjoy,

Simon.

Happy Birthday www.wesham.com

On Monday, while I was at the Party Conference, this website celebrated it's first birthday. So Happy Birthday.

In its life it's had 5,530 visitors and 325 posts. That's 460 people reading it a month and 27 posts to read.

I'll continue to keep it going, but may change the format in the next few weeks.

Election Winners Needed

If there is an autumn General Election, the Conservative Party will need everyone who wants to see the back of Brown and his Broken Britain to come out and help.

If you'd like to be one of those people get in touch with me. You'll be asked to help either locally or on a wider area. But we do need people in South Ribble and in Blackpool North where small numbers of voters changing sides will see Conservative MP's back at Westminster.

If you can knock on a door and ask people to get Brown out or deliver a newsletter explaining to people why Labours Failed and Broken Britain and why the Conservatives can mend, then get in touch and we can together win for Britain.

Hello, Is Gordon Brown going to bottle it and be forever know as the coward of British politics? I think so. After here what David Cameron had to say this week and after seeing the early results in the opinion polls, Gordon Brown knows he'll be the shortest lived PM for decades.
I'd like to hear comments of this subject, do you think Brown's Bottled it? Or is he prudently seeing it out after his 13 year wait to be PM?

The Party Conference

Hello,

After hearing David Cameron's speech yesterday I can finally says without a shadow of regret that I supported the right man two years ago as party leader. The speech has set out a personal vision the I'm 100% subscribed to. The apparent and reported void of policy's has been filled with a host of sensible solutions to problems facing modern Britain, broken so badly by Labour. Policy's that will allow the police to be on the streets, that makes the NHS accountable to the patient and not politician, policy's on the Environment, a pledge for a vote on the European Constitution and more.

But don't take my word for it, read the speech in full at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7026435.stm you can also watch it if you have time, I'd urge you to as it has inspired me into knowing we can sort out Browns Broken Britain and that we can win the election if it's in 5 weeks or 12 months.

Thanks,

Simon.

Party Conference

Hello,

This week I've been attending the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool. This is agreat opportunity to mingle and meet other members of the party, councillors, MP, and party officials. There has been a real buzz around the Winter Gardens with many well attended speech's and fringe events.

Will Hague kicked of proceedings on Monday with another fine example of why he's considered one of the best speech makers since Churchill. I am much looking forward to David Cameron's speech tomorrow where he'll set out the key policy's that the tasks groups have been researching.

I'll report back on Wednesday my thoughts on Mr. Cameron's speech.

Regards,

Simon.
