Mud on the road

I've asked the site manager at the Derby Road development about the procedures in place to keep mud off the road as there seems to be a lot of it on Station Road which makes the centre look messy. I'll let you know his reply.

Post Office Climb Down?

The Government (and you can't make this up) has announced that it will not be announcing any post office closures until May 2008. You may ask why may, well there are local authority election in May 2008 in many council across the land (not Fylde though). So Why's this then, does this mean that our local post offices are safe, that they are thinking again, that we were right. You must be kidding. They don't want to lose council seats where the post offices are being closed.

Can you believe that, Brown the Bottler, does not even have the bottle to put his new post office scheme to the electoral test! If it's so right to close post offices, let the people pass a verdict!

Although there is a stay of execution, we still have to vigilant for Fylde Post Offices, don't forget they have closed down 8 in Fylde since 1999. The Conservatives are still fighting and we are still campaigning. All post offices are vital in the Fylde, our network of small villages and rural communities need these to keep the cohesion. Shutting them, will shut down a village.

The Beast of Wesham

It appears that after long last he beast of Wesham has been tracked down. This mastif size dog has been roaming around since the spring with occasional sittings.

However, the dog wardens have now spotted the dog and are starting to feed it to gain trust and will then capture it for it to be re-housed.

Child Benefit Cock Up

I was as shocked as anyone at the news that 25 millions people's persoanl data has been lost by the Government's Tax agancy, it certainly gives you hope that they will be able to keep safe all the information they plan to hold on an ID card.

18,315 families in the Fylde have been affect by this cock up, and all though currently the advice is no one has grounds for fear, it is still worrying that this data has been lost. However the most worrying news is that the office junior acting under direction from a more senior member of staff is being balmed for this.

I find scapegoating a very dangerous and unfair practice. The head of the HMCR has resigned, and quite rightly so, but there are political masters that still cling on to their jobs.

And while I am talking about resignations. Contrast the behavour of the Head of HMRC and that of the Metroplitean Police, Sir Ian Blair, who steadfastly refuses to go, despite trying to cover up the killing of an innocent man.

I firmly believe that when things go so badly wrong, even if you are not personnally to blame, heads should roll at the top, and in this case we've a chancellor who steal's others ideas, bales out banks with our cash, and now seems to be losing persoanl information on such a grand scale.

He's predecessor, now the Prime Minister is no better, Dave Cameron hit the nail on the head when he said it frankly Weird to blame the opposition party for a cock up in the department he was in charge of for 10 years. No wonder the title 'The Bottler' fits and sticks.

Skateboard Park Success

Hello,

Some great news! After my years of asking, campaigning and scheming, Wesham is to get its own Skateboard Park. £40,000 is to be spent on the park up on the Fleetwood Road Playing Fields.

The Town Council has agreed in principal and we only now have to consult with the young people of Wesham and Rural Fylde to work out the best and most useful design.

The money to build this has come in part from Fylde Vision, the local strategic partnership and I thanks them for agreeing to the scheme. They have agreed to £25,000, but the condition was that the council finds funds to partially match this.

I had no problem agreeing to using money in my budget as Cabinet Member at Fylde for Leisure and Young People. I have allowed the £15,000 set aside for youth provision to be used in Wesham on the Skate Park.

I can remember when this money was set aside at the budget meeting on 1st March 2007 The Conservatives presented a budget that included £15,000 for youth provision. You many want to have a look to see who was so proud to have voted against the Conservative Budget that she had her name recorded as voting against. Click on this link. http://www.fylde.gov.uk/Documents/2007-03-01%20Council%20Mins.doc It now seems so short sighted of her, but without the Conservatives budget, Wesham would still be waiting for its Skateboard Park.

As always, I'll keep you informed of the progress, but with this investment and the £80,000 being invested from the Weeton Road development that park will certainly improve.

Talk about a band wagon.

I read in todays Lytham St Anne's Express how a certain County Councillor is claiming the credit for having parts of Wesham resurfaced. She says in her letter that for two years now she's been compling a list of raods that needed doing. That she's been consulting with other councillors and parish councils to build up this list.

Strange then that first I and everyone else I know has heard about it is the week after it appears in the local paper saying how grateful that Lancashire County Council is agreeing to my requests to have Morland Ave and Queens place resurfaced in January.

I've been writing about this on this website for months, I've e-mails going back what seems like years and now I've got somewhere someone else is jumping on the passing band wagon.

Politics is a funny game, some people seem to think the louder you shout the more people will believe you, but where exactly is the evidence Mrs County Councillor?

For further details e-mail simon@wesham.com.

Simon

I'm backing the Post Offices

Conservatives in Fylde are backing plans to save our remaining Post Offices.

The Post Office has announced that consultation on the next branches to be closed in the Borough will begin in January 2008.

Eight Post Offices in Fylde have already been closed since 1999.

Across the country, 4,000 Post Offices – a quarter of the network – have closed. A further 2,500 are expected to close by 2009.

Councillor Simon Renwick said: “Last year, 2,000 sub-post masters marched on Parliament and gave a four-million name petition to the Prime Minister opposing Post Office closures.

“Now, we are about to be told that yet more are to close and I’m concerned that some will be in Fylde. Many of our communities rely on these Post Offices.”

Conservatives will be holding an Action Day when residents in Fylde will be able to support the campaign to save our Post Offices. Come along to Kirkham's Market Square this Saturday at 11 am until 1 pm.
